Introducing

Thomas Wells

Who Am I?

I am a tubaist, composer, arranger, bandleader, and collaborative artist living in Saint Paul Minnesota. This website is designed for you to get to know me and my music, where you can hear me perform, buy my music, commission a composition, hire me or my band (Selby Avenue Brass Band), or listen to and/or watch some of my previous performances.

I am also a husband, and in combination with my wife, have 7 children and 9 grandchildren, whom we enjoy immensely. I enjoy running, biking, hiking, reading, golf, live theater, all with friends and family. I am a member of the Minneapolis Friends Meeting (Quaker) where I serve on several committees, including the Quaker Voluntary Service organization.

I hope you enjoy my website! If you have any questions, suggestions or comments, or want to access my music, please do follow the links, tell me what you want, and I will do my best to honor your wishes.

Sincerely,

Testimonials

Minneapolis–Saint Paul, Minnesota

I have known Tom for three years in my role as executive director of Walker | West Music Academy. He is a great music instructor and educator, leader, and collaborator, working with our school to provide music lessons; leading the adult jazz ensemble; and supporting the elder’s gospel choir (AMAZING GRACE CHORUS). Tom has a passion for teaching older adults as a way of providing lifelong learning. In addition to his leadership at Walker|West Music Academy, Tom is the inspired leader of the SELBY AVENUE BRASS BAND. He is also an outstanding composer, arranger, tubist, and multi-instrumentalist.
In 2015 and 2016, Tom traveled to New Amsterdam, Guyana, to teach with the Guyana Lutheran Music Academy. GLMA was an after-school music program that served over 150 adults and children per week in a rural part of the country. With very few music teachers in the region, Tom, along with the GLMA staff, served students who did not have access to professional music educators. Tom led large group lessons in brass and percussion introducing and furthering concepts of improvisation and active listening. Tom also served as a mentor to the GLMA staff, most of which were in their first few years of teaching. While not in Guyana, Tom held a benefit concert to support the operating costs of the Academy. Tom’s energy, enthusiasm, and expertise was an integral part of the organization.
